Back in April of this year I purchased an iPad, after seeing the various demos of comic book apps I was impressed. As a kid I was very much into a handful of comics, but as I got older I grew out of them. I continued to think comics were for kids, but with my fancy new iPad I decided to check out some comics recommended to me by some adult comic fans. “The Walking Dead” written by Robert Kirkman was one that was continually recommended, I grabbed the first few issues and was instantly hooked. The artwork was great, but I was shocked how excellent the writing was.

The story chronicles the travels of a group of people trying to survive in a world stricken by a zombie apocalypse. The group is led by Rick Grimes, who was a police officer in the old world. As their situation grows more and more grim, the group’s desperation to survive pushes them to do almost anything to stay alive. Although, there are zombies in The Walking Dead, the story is as much about zombies as Lost was a story about a strange island. Similar to Lost, the real stories lie in the survivors, their moral decisions, and how they must change and adapt to this new world. The biggest threat to the survivors safety aren’t the zombies, it’s the other human survivors. Resources are scarce and safe shelter is hard to find, desperation brings out the worst in some.

Ok, maybe you have no interest in reading a graphic novel, that’s fine — The Walking Dead has now been adapated into a television show with Frank Darabont (director for The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, The Mist) and Gale Anne Hurd (The Terminator, Aliens, The Abyss ) acting as executive producers and Darabont writing and directing. Not impressed by my name-dropping yet?  The effects team includes veteran special effects makeup designer Greg Nicotero. The writing team includes writers from such shows as The Shield, Dexter, Breaking Bad, and composer Bear McCreary (Battlestar Galactica) is scoring the series. It will premiere on the AMC network on Halloween night (October 31, 2010) with a 90-minute premiere episode, during the network’s “Fearfest”.

I highly recommend the comics; I have many friends who don’t read comics in general but love The Walking Dead comics.  Watch the premier tonight on AMC!

The Lost 2-hour season premier of the final season kicks off tonight. The show notorious for raising a handful of questions for every 1 question it answers is back to finally wrap-up everything into one neat little package? Right? I hope so. I can’t count the amount of times I’ve yelled out “WHAT?” at the end an episode. I realize it’s just a TV show but there are so many loose ends that need to be wrapped up that I’m almost watching in disbelief that it’s possible to make sense of it all. What is all that crazy jungle whispering? How did John Locke come back to life? What’s up with Walt’s have special powers?  Why does Hurley see dead people? How does Hurley remain to be 300lbs on an island with limited food resources? Where is Claire? How is the island connected to Egyptian mythology? … I could do this all day.

The producers have said they plan to wrap up long-standing mysteries, such as the nature of the smoke monster, the four-toed statue of Taweret, the identity of the Adam & Eve skeletons from the season one episode “House of the Rising Sun”, and the reason the Dharma periodic resupply drops continue after the purge. Let’s hope they don’t disappoint.

The kids of South Park return tonight for the second half of the 13th season. The episode titled “Dead Celebrities” appears to be a the writers taking a poke at the explosion of ghost hunting shows popping up all over TV. Powerful forces are tormenting Ike Broflovski, the adopted younger brother of Kyle. He’s freaked out and the stress could kill him. Kyle and the boys are doing everything they can to save him, but the poltergeists won’t leave the poor kid alone. They’re forced to seek out professional ghost hunters to bring some sense of normalcy back to the Broflovski household.

Tune in when South Park airs “Dead Celebrities” on Wednesday, October 7th at 10:00pm ET on Comedy Central. “Dead Celebrity” will re-air multiple times throughout the week; you can catch it at 12:00am and 10:30pm on Thursday, 11:00pm on Sunday, and 3:00 am on Monday.

Well it looks like Sacred Heart isn’t closing its doors after all. It’s official — there will be a ninth season of Scrubs. And it looks like Scrubs may become very similar to the medical drama E.R. — not in content, but rather in it’s rotating style cast. Zach Braff (J.D.) and Sarah Chalk (Elliot Reid) will be returning for the first six episodes to “help transition the show to its new set-up, details for which are still being hammered out” according to the Hollywood Reporter. Donald Faison (Turk) and John C. McGinley (Dr. Cox) have both shot pilots for new shows, however if their pilots don’t get picked up they may be returning to the show as regular cast members. Ken Jenkins (Bob Kelso) will be making guest appearances in some capacity. No word yet as to whether or not Judy Reyes (Carla) or Sam Lloyd (Ted) will be returning to the show. Neil Flynn (Janitor) will appear in the first episode of the new season — however his new show The Middle has been picked up by ABC and airs September 30th.

The new incarnation of Scrubs has completed casting all the lead roles. The Hollywood Reporter says Michael Mosley and Kerry Bishe will join the cast, alongside the recently added Dave Franco. Mosley will play Drew, who is the oldest of the new med school students. Now in his 30s, Drew is at med school for the second time, having had a meltdown ten years before when he was a top candidate at Harvard Medical School. Drew is very unhappy with being thrust into any sort of mentor role to the younger students due to his age.

Bishe will play Lucy, a 22 year old first year med student who comes from a family of commercial fisherman. In a new interview with TVSquad.com, Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence noted that a new character would be somewhat the focus of the new Scrubs and take over the role of narrator JD filled, and Lucy seems to be that character.

Franco’s character, Cole, is a wealthy, arrogant med student who becomes a major source of irritation for Dr. Cox.

Sonal Shah will also be back in Season 9 as Sunny, appearing in the same recurring manner as characters like Todd and Ted. Eliza Coupe (Denise), is also returning and is being elevated from recurring to a series regular.

No word yet on an official return date for Scrubs — but expect it this fall.

No cable? No satellite? No problem. Traditional television and the way it’s delivered is a thing of the past. You now have alternatives. The internet is an endless resource for great FREE on-demand programming — whether it be network tv programs or internet exclusive content. There’s much more than Youtube out there.

Hulu is a website that offers commercial-supported streaming video of TV shows and movies from NBC, Fox, ABC and many other networks and studios. Hulu Desktop is application (PC & Mac) you can use to navigate and stream Hulu content without the need of a internet browser. Unfortunately Hulu videos are only offered to users in the United States. Although we’ve heard of international users utilizing VPN services to access Hulu from anywhere– we of course don’t condone such sneeky tactics.

Revision3 is a San Francisco based Internet television network that creates, produces and distributes web television shows on topics such as films, video games, comics, television, technology, bar tricks,  and stand-up comedy — just to name a few. The company was founded by Jay Adelson, Kevin Rose and David Prager in April 2005. Most of them were previously employees of the television network TechTV. The content and selection is great.

TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is an academic organization. TED is well-known for its annual, invitation-only conference devoted to “ideas worth spreading”. TED is famous for its lectures, known as TED Talks, which originally focused on technology, entertainment and design, but have now expanded in scope to a broad set of topics including science, arts, politics, education, culture, business, global issues, technology and development. Speakers have included such people as former U.S. President Bill Clinton, U.K. Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Nobel laureates James D. Watson, Jane Goodall, and Al Gore, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, Google co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page, and Billy Graham. Tom Green is definitely no Jay Leno (thank god) and I wouldn’t really call him a comedian but he does have a very real, unscripted and irreverent talk show. The show is shot and broadcasted live on the internet from his home in California. Despite this modest setup Tom has managed to attract some decent caliber celebrities such as Norm Macdonald, Joe Rogan, Russell Peters, and Judah Friedlander — to name just a few.

Boxee isn’t a video website — it’s a cross-platform media center program that supports plugins for many video content websites. Some of the plugins include the websites mentioned above and many others. The program is completely free and is available for Windows, Mac, Linux and even Apple TV. Family Guy – September 27th

The hit Fox cartoon comedy returns for it’s 8th season. Expect a much sharper show this year, with Family Guy airing in HD for the first time ever this season. “Road to the Multiverse” is the first episode — It is Brian and Stewie’s fifth road adventure, following “Road to Rhode Island“, “Road to Europe“, “Road to Rupert” and “Road to Germany“. The episode is inspired by the TV show Sliders , which focused on alternate realities and the original title for the episode was even Sliders.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia – September 17th

Plots in the 5th season will include a “Sunny” take on the current economic crisis, including a warped look at the mortgage crisis and Ponzi schemes. There will also be a “Sunny” take on the Octomom as Dee tries to get pregnant with as many babies as possible, and a look back at the gang when they were “Sunny Babies“. Season five will also see The Waitress getting married, Mac tries to alter his life to honor the late Steven Irwin (“Crocodile Hunter”), Charlie gets a pet Pitt Bull, Sweet Dee attempts to murder an ex-boyfriend, and there will be a plot where the gang enters a frat house beer pong tournament.

The Ultimate Fighter – September 16th

The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights is the tenth installment of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC)-produced reality television series The Ultimate Fighter. UFC legend Rampage Jackson and former Ultimate Fighter Rashad Evans will train and coach a group of heavyweights hungry to test themselves on the ultimate proving ground. This season will not feature an elimination round as have the past few seasons. All competitors invited to Las Vegas for the show’s taping will participate in the entire season.

The Office – September 17th

The sixth season will continue the American adaptation of the British TV series of the same name as a mockumentary portraying the daily lives of office employees in the Scranton, Pennsylvania branch of the fictitious Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. Pam and Jim are expected to marry sometime in the first part of the season.

Curb Your Enthusiasm – September 20th

A major arc in the season will be Larry David reuniting the cast of Seinfeld for a reunion episode. Jerry Seinfeld, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jason Alexander, Michael Richards, Wayne Knight, Len Lesser, Estelle Harris and Jerry Stiller have all been confirmed for the reunion, reprising their roles from the classic sitcom. Cheryl Hines has confirmed that she will be returning to the show. Additionally it was reported in the April 27, 2009 issue of People Magazine that Vivica A. Fox will be returning to the series. In response as to whether she would be Larry’s wife on the show, all she says is “Larry David is my man! And I am still making his life chaotic.” It has since been confirmed that she will be in a relationship with Larry when the season begins. Christian Slater, Catherine O’Hara and Meg Ryan are also set to appear.

The Big Bang Theory – September 21st

In the season opener episode “The Electric Can Opener Fluctuation” Sheldon flies back to Texas in disgrace when he learns the guys tampered with his arctic expedition data, forcing the guys to follow him and threatening Leonard’s hopes for a romantic encounter with Penny.

How I Met Your Mother – September 21st

In the season opener episode “Definitions” Robin and Barney resist their friends’ pressure that they should have “the talk” about their relationship. Meanwhile, a panicky Ted, about to face his first college class, decides he must keep control of his students by releasing his “inner douche”, a tactic that backfires miserably, until…. Ted learns something about the mother.

Californication – September 27th

This season will follow where the last left off. Key elements include Lou Ashby’s biography being a flop, Hank becoming a teacher, and Hank’s ongoing relationship with his daughter Becca. In the first Episode “Wish You Were Here” Karen has moved back to New York, Hank has to deal with rebellious Becca. Charlie and Marcy move back in together despite the fact they still intend to divorce each other.

Dexter – September 27th

John Lithgow has been confirmed to join the cast of Dexter for season 4. Lithgow will play Walter Simmons, an unassuming, mild-mannered suburbanite who has been living a dual life as one of America’s most prolific and deadly serial killers. Dubbed the “Trinity Killer” because of his proclivity to kill in threes, he relocates to Miami after being tracked by retired FBI Special Agent Frank Lundy (Keith Carradine). Brought on to assist in the investigation of Miami’s latest serial killer, Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) becomes increaslingly fascinated with “Trinity’s” unique killing methods and his ability to evade capture for almost three decades. The first episode of season four, entitled “Living The Dream” was leaked online in late August. There is some speculation amongst the online community that it was a marketing strategy from Showtime, to increase the popularity of the program. This is due to the nature of the episode which leaves the viewer with a “cliffhanger” in the storyline.

It’s official — the entire voice cast of Futurama has just signed a new contract with Fox after weeks of intense salary negotiations.

As late as last week, the network was threatening to replace the original voices of Matt Groening‘s cult-hit cartoon, to the point of actually announcing a casting call for voice actors to replace them.

The Futurama voice cast includes John DiMaggio, Maurice LaMarche, Billy West, Tress MacNeille and Katey Sagal.

The compromise agreement, with the studio paying more and the actors accepting less, comes after the announcement of a 26-episode pick-up here by Comedy Central. Futurama also airs internationally in syndication, has produced four bestselling straight-to-DVD movies (later cut into episodes) and an upcoming feature film.

“We are thrilled to have our incredible cast back. The call has already `gone out to the animators to put the mouths back on the characters,” Futurama creators Groening and David X. Cohen said in a joint statement.

Interesting news for you Lost fans out there– so don’t read forward if you don’t want any details. It’s sounds like Jack’s crazy plan worked. In May’s finale, the castaways detonated a bomb on the mysterious island in hopes of resetting the last several years of their lives. During Comic-Con this year numerous sixth season reports were made including the announcement of the return of Elizabeth Mitchell (Juliet Burke), Jeremy Davies (Daniel Faraday) and Dominic Monaghan (Charlie Pace),  as well as the inclusion of Nestor Carbonell (Richard Alpert) as a main character. Josh Holloway stated his character Sawyer would revert back to his old self after the loss of Juliet.

Other announcements include Carlton Cuse (executive producer and showrunner) stating both the time travel and flash-forward seasons were over, and they’re moving into something different for the sixth season. These revelations confirms reports that suggested a “Lost” reunion of sorts for the final season.

“(In the first season, the characters) were running around the jungle, things felt intense and surprising. We have a way that we’re going to be able to do that in the final season too.” said Cuse.

“There’s a good chance you’ll be seeing many characters you haven’t seen since the first season again,” said executive producer Damon Lindelof.

The final season, producers say, will in some ways resemble the first.

Yet fans shouldn’t think that any sort of narrative reboot will invalidate everything that’s already happened, “because that would be a real big cheat,” said Jorge Garcia, who plays Hugo on the show.

“Just trust us,” reassured Cuse.

The show will also employ a new narrative device that’s unique to the final season.

“The time travel season is over, the flash forward season is over,” Lindelof said. “We’re going to do something different.”

Lost will conclude its sixth season with its 121st and final episode airing in May 2010. It is planned to have 18 episodes.

20th Century Fox TV is producing 26 new episodes for a mid-year cable run on Comedy Central, but talks have broken down with voice stars Billy West, Katey Sagal, John DiMaggio, Maurice LaMarche, and Tress MacNeille over money. Fox is trying to cut costs for the move to cable and has offered the cast much less than they were asking (believed to be around $75,000 per episode).

As a result, 20th has put out a casting call to find replacement voice actors for the show. According to insiders, a deal could eventually be struck that brings the original voice actors back — but for now, the studio said it’s serious about finding replacements.

It’s not the first time 20th has gone that route during a tough negotiation on one of its toons. The studio previously threatened to replace the voice talent on “The Simpsons” when it couldn’t come to a deal with its stars. Casting feelers for replacements were even sent out, but a deal was eventually struck with the stars.

“We love the ‘Futurama’ voice performers and absolutely wanted to use them, but unfortunately, we could not meet their salary demands,” 20th Century Fox TV said in a statement. “While replacing these talented actors will be difficult, the show must go on. We are confident that we will find terrific new performers to give voice to Matt and David’s brilliantly subversive characters.”

Hopefully Fox wises up and gives Futurama a proper budget, gets the original actors, and puts Futurama on Fox. The original voice actors (and Billy West specifically) are irreplaceable.

Curb Your Enthusiasm

Cheryl Hines has confirmed that she will be returning to the show. It has been confirmed that the principal cast of Seinfeld will be appearing together in several episodes. It was also reported in the April 27, 2009 issue of People Magazine that Vivica A. Fox will be returning to the series. In response as to whether she would be Larry’s wife on the show, all she says is “Larry David is my man! And I am still making his life chaotic.”
